As respected yoga teacher T. Krishnamacharya said, “if you can breathe, you can practice yoga”. Yoga can improve the lives of people of all ages, with a range of physical, emotional and psychological benefits.

However, not everyone can get up and down off the floor easily, which can make traditional yoga classes difficult. Whether this is due to age, physical disabilities, injuries, excess weight or recent surgery - with the help of a chair, anyone can practice yoga. It is also a great form of yoga for beginners or anyone who wants to focus on a more gentle form of yoga. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body, allowing you to take full advantage of yoga’s amazing benefits.

Chair yoga is a gentle yoga practice using the chair for seated poses, and as a balance point for standing poses. Like a regular yoga class, Chair yoga increases flexibility, strength and body awareness. Just about any standard yoga pose can be modified for chair yoga, including backbends, twists, hip openers and forward folds.

A regular yoga practice can keep you healthy by:

  • Maintaining the mobility of your spine
  • Strengthening your core musculature to support your lower back and improve your stability
  • Bringing your joints through the full range of motion to develop functional flexibility, so you can perform daily tasks with minimal discomfort
  • Developing your ability to balance

Yoga can also improve cardiovascular health, reduce high blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression and promote an overall sense of wellbeing.

This chair-based class makes yoga accessible to anyone who is interested in learning to move and breathe in a gentle, mindful way, honouring your body no matter the physical challenges you may have. The class will include simple movements, adapted asana, breath awareness, meditation and relaxation.

Thursday, noon to 1.15pm - Bookham Space, Dorking Road, Bookham, Surrey KT23 4PB

Classes are held at the South Bookham Space, on Dorking Road, Great Bookham, Surrey KT23 4PB. This lovely venue's name describes perfectly the feeling when you enter - space to breathe more easily, freedom to move. Easily accessible from the A246, simply follow the signs to Polesden Lacey and look out for the red brick building on the left, immediately after the children's play area in the recreation ground. Parking available.

A certain amount of personal data is collected by Michele Schnaier Yoga at the time of booking your first yoga class. This is for the purposes of meeting Insurance Company criteria as well as for your health and safety at yoga. Health information is also used to tailor sessions to suit your individual needs.

All information gathered by Michele Schnaier Yoga is treated as confidential and will not be shared with a third party. It is only viewed by Michele Schnaier.

Information submitted by paper form is kept and securely stored by Michele Schnaier Yoga for the time determined by the Insurance Company. The Insurance Company requests that a record of our customer’s data and registrations be kept for seven years after your last class with us.

If you wish to alter any of your data, review how it is used or wish to request its return to you, please contact Michele Schnaier on micheleschnaieryoga@gmail.com or 0774 865 2056.

You may, of course, decline to submit personally identifiable information to Michele Schnaier Yoga, in which case Michele Schnaier Yoga may not be able to provide certain services to you.

Michele Schnaier Yoga Mailing List

Direct marketing emails and newsletters informing you of new, future or alternative services we provide are sent through a secure permission-based email system called MailChimp (see their Privacy Policy at www.mailchimp.com). When you book your first yoga class, you will be invited to join our MailChimp email list. You have the ability to Opt-In at this point, and subsequently subscription preferences may be changed by you at any time.

You may also Opt-In to our Mailchimp email list by completing the online subscription form on my website or Facebook page. You may subsequently change your subscription preferences at any time.

Contact Information

We may, from time to time, use your phone number and/or email address to contact you about urgent class changes or to inform you if a waiting list place has become available. We will only do this if you have booked the class in question, or added yourself to the waiting list. If you do not wish us to contact you in this way, please inform Michele Schnaier in person or by emailing micheleschnaieryoga@gmail.com.

Emergency Contact information is collected solely for use in an emergency, should Michele Schnaier Yoga need to contact your next of kin or give this information to the emergency services.
